Ready… Set… Okay, What Are You Waiting For?!

You know what irks me? A lot of things, frankly, but one that really bothers me is when people say they can’t try or do or accomplish something until their body is smaller. Why in the world would you place an arbitrary limit like that on your life? I mean, what are you gonna do if you never reach that “perfect” size that will mean you can finally try or do or accomplish that thing? Are you never going to try or do or accomplish it?

I never would have gone to paradise with my best friend!

Here are some things people put off until they are thin “enough”:

  • Asking someone out.
  • Getting out on the dating scene.
  • Buying (and wearing) a specific article of clothing.
  • Buying (and wearing) a bathing suit.
  • Going on vacation.
  • Going on a cruise.
  • Getting married.
  • Having a baby.
  • Signing up for a physical event.
  • Going to a reunion.
  • Having your picture taken.

Why would you put off any of these fun and exciting things because of the size of your body? Do you think that they will be more enjoyable to do once you are thin? Or – this makes my heart hurt to even ask – do you think you don’t deserve wonderful things because you aren’t thin?

torontoIf I waited until I was thin, I wouldn’t have earned this sweet medal.

If I waited until I was acceptably (according to society’s standards) skinny enough to ask a handsome guy out, I would never go on dates. I wouldn’t have a drawer full of super cute bathing suits that I cannot wait to wear on my beach vacation next week – because I wouldn’t even have planned a beach vacation. I wouldn’t have eleven half marathon medals. I wouldn’t have had a blast at my high school and college reunions. What a boring life it would be if I hadn’t done – and continue to do – all those things. Despite the fact that I am not skinny.

Okay, your turn. Have you put something off because of your body? Have you denied yourself something fun or exciting or pleasurable because of your body? Was it because you were scared, embarrassed, uncomfortable? Because you didn’t think you deserved it? Please share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!

If I waited until I was thin, I never would have started this blog. Obviously!

And promise me that you won’t let the size or shape or condition of your body stop you from trying, doing, and accomplishing things. We go around once, people. Don’t limit yourself. Live!
