Fit Five Friday: Lisa

Today’s Fit Five Friday features Lisa from Texas. Let’s see what she has to say about health, fitness, and her body.

1. What do you love about your body?

I love that my body is good at adapting.  Challenge it with marathon training and it adapts, go through a pregnancy and it changes as needed for that, sit around on the couch and eat ice cream…it adapts to that too, just not quite in the way I would like.  I don’t know if you were looking for hey I love my legs or something here, but I couldn’t think of a body part I really loved.  I do, however, love the way the body is “engineered”. 😉 (Note: Lisa is an engineer!)

2. What would you like to change about your body?

Cellulite, wrinkles, and breast size.  I also wish I had not spent so much of my younger years in the sun.

3. Have you ever been or are you currently on a diet?

I don’t really believe in dieting.  Last diet I was on was in high school.  I got myself into a situation where I was trying to see how little I could eat and how much I could exercise.  I did lose weight and my monthly cycle.  When I went back to eating regular I had messed up my metabolism and actually gained a lot of weight.  Since then exercise and moderation have been my goal.

4. Have you ever or do you currently belong to a gym?

I belong to a gym on my work campus.  I have used the free pilates and yoga classes, as well as the outdoor track in the past.  It is convenient because there are showers and it is right at work.  I have not been more than once in the last two years since I had my daughter, but I have my work out clothes in the car and I have faith I will find a way to put it back in my day.

5. What does fitness mean to you?

This is a tough one.  Fitness means that your body is working as intended, to me.  You are not overworking it to the point that it is breaking down and you are not letting it rest so much that it becomes sluggish.  I am not fit right now, but when I am I just feel better.  Fitness feels like balance to me.  You are eating enough to fuel your body and you are working your body enough to keep it functioning well.

Bonus: What is your current fitness goal?

My current fitness goal is to run a 1/2 marathon by the end of 2013.
