One thing I’ve talked about a lot on this site is how frustrating it can be to never see yourself and your body type reflected anywhere. Unless you’re quite thin, you likely never see your body on television, in the movies, in the pages of a magazine. Thankfully, the internet is a wide and wonderful place, and if you know where to look, you can find people who look (and think and feel) an awful lot like you.
One of the best things about getting involved in the body positive/fat positive/fat acceptance movement is that is has allowed me to read the inspiring and challenging thoughts of and interact with some incredible people (some of which you can find in my blog roll on the left). One of the people I read and follow is Rachele, who just happens to also be an artist. And she creates portraits she calls Fat Babe Designs, which are little cartoony avatars that represent the fat babe version of a person. With a name like that, how could I not commission one of myself?
So here’s the Fat Babe version of me! Check out my marathon medal, which also happens to feature the BFD logo. There’s a glimpse of Rochester in the background, and Rachele even captured my short, sassy haircut.
When I went searching for people who look like me online, I never thought to look at the end of someone’s brush or pen. I love that the internet allows like-minded people to come together, to support and encourage each other – and to draw super cute pictures of each other, too!
That’s all for today, folks. I’ve got the day off, and I’m spending it with a lovely friend. We’re going to go to the spa, and then have a leisurely lunch. I hope y’all have a lovely Monday.
Oh! And if you want your own Fat Babe, you can commission one from Rachele here!
