Fit Five: James

Today’s Fit Five Friday features James from New York. Let’s see what he has to say about health, fitness, and his body.

While some of his answers are humorous, I think his responses to the Fit Five bring up an interesting set of questions: Is it easier to accept your body if you’re male? Is there less body shaming by society, and from yourself? Are you less intimidated to go to a gym? Is there less pressure to work out, diet, and be slim? I don’t have answers – but I think the questions are worth considering.

1. What do you love about your body?

My terribly handsome face.

2. What would you like to change about your body?

Lower my bad cholesterol. Raise my good cholesterol.

3. Have you ever been or are you currently on a diet?

Did the Adkins 15 years ago, which I’m pretty sure screwed me over for a while, blood sugar, etc. No particular diets other than that. Any diet just tends to be things like cutting junk food.

4. Have you ever or do you currently belong to a gym?

I do currently. It’s fine. It’s a smaller gym. When I go, which isn’t often lately, I generally go early in the morning or later at night to avoid crowds. Crowds at the gym are the worst. Waiting for equipment, etc.

5. What does fitness mean to you?

Fitness means general health. The capability to be comfortably active.
