I Give Up

I’m not usually the type to give up on something, once I’ve set my mind to it. But I am here to say officially that I give up. I throw in the towel. I surrender to the truth: I am never going to find a pair of knee-high leather boots that fit.

I’ve been trying to find a pair since October. Four months! At first I thought I’d hit the jackpot; I found a website with wide-calf boots that were also small enough to fit my feet. Genius! I sent away for a pair (they were from the UK), size 6. What arrived, many weeks later? Size 12. Here’s what they look like – and mind you, my bare foot is at the back of the booted foot. That’s how big these suckers are.

bootsIt gets better… I sent the boots back, reordered them in a 6… and they sent ANOTHER 12. And then they did it a third time! I repeatedly asked if these boots really came in a size 6, and was assured that they do. But for some reason, the company is incapable of sending them to me.

So I researched some boots on an American website. I own suede knee-high boots of a certain brand, and found a wide-calf leather version. I sent an email to their Customer Service Department to check on the calf width, because they typically list the circumference for a size 8 or 9, and state that the inches may vary based on shoe size. I was told that they couldn’t confirm the circumference on a 6, but I should go ahead and order them anyway (after all, shipping is free both ways). They arrived and, surprise! They wouldn’t go all the way up. Here they are, with a good inch or two scrunched down around my ankle (not how they are supposed to look, obviously – and they are super uncomfortable, too).

So that’s it. I give up. Boots of the world, you win. My small feet and my large, muscular calves are not meant to be covered in knee-high leather. I admit defeat.

Maybe next year?
