Pinspiration: This is How You Do It

Instead of just getting mad and complaining about the ridiculous “fitspo” things that plague Pinterest, I’ve started a BFD Pinterest page to capture the best of health, fitness, food, clothing, and inspiration. Let’s take a look at what you will and won’t find on the BFD page.

You won’t find pins that say, “I am perfectly happy with this weight loss, fat burning, and nutrition program….NO risk! Love it! :-)” First of all, is “risk” your first thought when attempting a diet? It’s such a random thing to trumpet. Ooh, and guess what? Most posts you see that have this tag on it go to a page full of half-naked women (I guess those images are supposed to inspire weight loss, fat burning and nutrition, because there’s no “program” involved), or back to that Fat Loss Factor site that I talked about a few months ago (click here to read the original post).

You won’t find pins that show extremely thin fitness or lingerie models showing off their glistening abs. You won’t find links to special “detox” drinks or honey-and-cinnamon concoctions that will instantly and painlessly help you lose 20 pounds. You won’t find pins that link to spot-reduction exercises to help flatten your stomach or – a new trend – exercises that help you achieve a rounder butt.

And you sure won’t find shaming quotes about how you aren’t trying hard enough to get your body bikini or boyfriend ready. You won’t be be told that you just have to want the perfect body bad enough, and then you can have it. You won’t be told you just need seven days, or this one move, or this one food, or that the road to thin is “fast,” “easy,” or “simple.”

What you will see? Fitness equipment and gadgets, workout clothes, cute outfits, bathing suits, inspiring pictures of athletes of size (including me!), yummy food, and motivating quotes that focus on body positivity.
