W.E.W. Volume 4

Ahh, it’s that magical time of the week… the end! And you know what that means: Time for a round up of the best (and worst) society had to offer. Let’s get to it.

So, have you heard the news that the equivalent of Plan B over in Europe doesn’t work on women who weigh more than 176 pounds? There’s a lot to discuss about that, but let’s focus on this: PETA decided to step into the fray and announce that us fatties can “regain control over [our] reproductive lives” if we just go vegan. (Warning! The picture at this link is graphic, in a typically overdone PETA bloody way.) Yep, they’ve taken this important medical issue and turned it into fat-shaming message about veganism. My favorite part, though, is that when they were called out on this ridiculous campaign, they responded with a press release that says, in part:

Recent research disputing the idea that a person can be obese and healthy further underscores that what is truly shameful is attempting to silence those who are letting women know what healthy weight-loss options are available to them.

Thanks, PETA, for reminding me yet again that there’s no way I’m healthy because I’m fat, but extra thanks for letting me know that there are healthy weight-loss options available to me. I had no idea! I am not inundated nearly every single minute of my life with messages exactly like this! Thank goodness you’re here!

Oh, yeah, about that? Apparently there’s a new study that says I’m totes unhealthy because I’m fat, end of story. My healthy habits don’t matter, just my weight. Wait, wasn’t there just a study that said we could be fat and healthy? Make up your minds, study makers! Here’s the interesting bit:

But since obesity has different effects on the body for different people, researchers are still investigating how weight gain and its health effects may vary among people whose obesity is due primarily to things such as genetics and environmental exposures as opposed to unhealthy diets and lack of physical activity.

Oh, so you’re saying that maybe people who don’t work out and who eat less nutritious food are those who aren’t fit? So maybe it’s about habits, and not about You Know What*? I’ve just done my own study, where I asked myself if I think that sounds pretty reasonable. The results: I agree with me!

*I thought I’d try this out instead of writing BMI, in a Lord Voldemort way. What do you think?

Next up: Have you waited until the last minute to get your child’s picture taken for your Christmas card? Well, after you get those snapshots back from Sears, head on over to this etsy shop that will turn your kid into a monster. Oh, sorry, I mean, into a pageant queen. You can get natural glitz, or go full-bore for pageant glitz. And if you’re worried that your kid has too many flaws, have no fear – this shop will also retouch your kid’s ugly mug for you. Here’s a picture of me that I added my own glitz to.

Fabulous, right?! I never knew how good I could look, and I’m sad that I ordered my Christmas card before I made this. I can’t wait to see your glitzed-up kids. You owe it to their self-esteem!

For the record, I know that “fit mom” Maria Kang has been in the news again this week, spreading her fat bigotry far and wide. I can’t even read her interviews without wanting to punch the wall, so I’m not going to talk about her any more here, except to say: I hope her children don’t become fat, because they will live miserable, horrible, hate-filled lives.

So let’s wrap things up with a few quick hits, or links that I’m providing without my rambling notes. Check them out, and share your thoughts in the comments!
